After many months of planning, the Women's Centre in El Remate has finally broke ground! It is very exciting to see the enthusiasm of the women of Grupo Femenino as they work just as hard as many of the labourers to see their dreams realized.
We hope that the centre will be completed within 4 to 5 months. Funding for this project came from another Calgary group, Friends of Ix-Canaan, us, The Ayudamos Foundation and the Wild Rose Foundation of Alberta.
We are now investigating some economic strategies for the women that will allow them to earn a living wage to support their families. I have included some of the pictures I took almost a week ago that show the beginnings of the construction project.
