9/30/06 I was in El Remate, Peten this past week to meet with the women's group and with our partner Anne Lossing. Anne and I completed some financial work and met with the local contractor to discuss the building for the women's group. The women's group had to legalize themselves and so, Juana, the president, Anne and I went to one of the local lawyers to proceed with the legalization. The new formal name of the women's group is, "Asociación Coalición Femenina Ix-Canaan El Remate, Guardianes de la Selva". Quite a mouthful, but will likely commonly be known as Coalición Femenina. The process of legalization should take about three weeks, at which time, the land titles will be formally in the name of the coalition. Then, the work can officially begin on the site.
